MOS mp3player guide
the MOS Mp3 Player is a great addition to your profile.

This document will attempt to explain some of customization settings in more detail, and provide some usage tips.
==============================================================
The Configuration/Customization Menu

Clicking on the little wrench icon at the bottom of the player opens the configuration menu, where you will find the parameters that you can alter arranged in two columns.

Player Height: sets how tall the player is in pixels. (the width is static and cannot be changed)

Current Mp3: Color of the currently selected/playing track.

Background 1: sets the main color gradient for the entire player, with the darkest part of the gradient at the top.

Background 2: sets the secondary color gradient that begins blending into the Background 1 gradient approximately in the middle of the player, then fading to the bottom.

Button 1: this sets the color of all the buttons. This parameter also controls the color of the volume slider, if it is enabled.

Button Over: the color the buttons change to on mouse-over.

Slider 1: the top half color of the pill-slider on the playback status indicator.

Slider 2: the bottom half color of the pill-slider.

Slider Over: Mouse over color of the entire pill-slider.

Text: Color of the text in the playlist

Scrollbar: If there are more songs in the playlist than the player height can accomodate, a scrollbar appears on the right hand side of the playlist. This parameter controls the main color of that scrollbar.

Scrollbar Over: This is the mouse over color of the scrollbar.

Playlist: This sets the background color of the playlist area.

Playlist Alpha: Sets the background transparency of the playlist. Basically, this adjusts the contrast of the background color of the playlist by making it more, or less transparent. 100% will display a solid color, while 0% will be completely transparent, and the playlist will show the background 1 & 2 gradients .

Loop: Enables/disables playlist looping. If set to "yes" the playlist will loop infinitely.

Show Volume: Adds or removes the volume slider.

Autoplay: If autoplay is set to "yes", the playlist will begin playing as soon as the player loads of the page. Most annoying IMHO.

Shuffle: Playlist is played in random order on start.

Reset default: restores all settings to their original values.

Update: Applies any changes you've made, and reloads the page.

Colormatch: A page where you can view HTML colors and copy their codes.

Here's a simple color page on my server where you can also copy the codes.

Button Functions:

The player controls at the top of the player are pretty self explanatory, so I won't go into those.

The buttons at the bottom are from left to right:

Left Side
1) Text Doc Icon: Opens the playlist, where you can view it, and delete songs. I wish there was a "reorder" function.

2) Plus Sign Icon: Opens the dialog to add music to your playlist. You can do this in two ways- by uploading songs from your computer to the MOS servers (bandwidth on their dime), or link to them offsite, in which case the bandwidth load is on the hosting site. You can have a total of twenty songs on your playlist. Ten uploads, and ten linked tunes. There is a file size limit of 8 MB for uploads, but no limit on linked content.

I would like to take this opportunity to mention that the MOS Terms Of Service prohibits uploading/linking to content that you do not own, or have the proper permission to use.

We have a whole planet of extremely talented music artists in MOS, many of whom will gladly allow use of their music on your profile if you just ask. There is also plenty of music available under Creative Commons licensing as well.

See http://creativecommons.org for more info.

3)Wrench Icon: Opens the configuration/customization dialog.

Right Side
4)Brackets Icon: Opens up a text box where you can copy the HTML code of your player for embedding in your own webpage.
5)RSS Icon: Opens up a feed page for the player with links to download the songs in the playlist, as well as a subscription link.
6)Popout Icon: Activates a pop up window version of the player, with a really annoying advertisement flashing alongside it.

Bugs & Oddities

I've noticed a couple of strange behaviours, but nothing major so far. I hear some people reporting that the player performs better/worse in various browsers, but I have not looked into it yet. I use Opera with no problems.

One issue I've had, is when uploading a song, after it has finished uploading and the player refreshes the playlist, it shows two copies of the song, and displays a duplicate song error.

If you close the browser while a song is playing, it continues playing to the end of the song. No big deal, but a little weird the first time it happens. Just remember to stop playback before closing the browser to prevent it happening.
