What do you expect and/or want in a good Sci-fi game?

My thoughts would be to have the setting on one planet, a nice assortment of weapons, maybe 10 in total, and no shoot and forget. Prefer to have to aim and hit the target using my own skills. Maybe a few ambush secondary weapons similar too but not clay-mores or C4 Keep the vehicles on the ground, nothing in the skies. A dedicated server allowing for say 32 for team death match, and squad play for those slow days when our personal lives interfere with our gaming and there is a smaller than normal turnout. I live for MultiPlayer so I would have to say no concerns for anything fancy on SP, but maybe a quick trainer on the weapons.

Wow. Good question. High quality. Great storyline. Yes, a plot. minimal cut scenes or scripted events. (OK, it was done well in HL2). Huge, open ended environments to explore and quests or tasks optional or at least done in any order, keeping it nonlinear. I like a mix of the Myst series, sci fi shoot em ups and RPGs like Oblivion and to some extent Mass Effect. So yeah, puzzle solving, shooting and role play. I like many levels/ environments with variety. There needs to be replayable single play of about 80 hours. Online play good but optional.
I must be a game designer's worst nightmare customer. Hehe!

@haladur_phox It's not so much the loading screens themselves, but the amount that would bother me. A mini-game would be good. They do it in FIFA. But I'm enough of a realist to know you can't have every area and every character in a game loaded up at once.

I've been paying alot of attention to the text-based ones (RPGs) that are developing the flash clients, both old and new. I tend to keep an eye on them XD

This depends a lot on the genre of the game. RGP, RTS, X4, FPS, flash game, text-based, MMO.... I can give you examples of games I've enjoyed from each genre, or a few things that I've liked in various games, but the list will be long unless you can be any more specific.

@Iceman79 would it be good of the loading screen was hidden by a minigame or something?

As an RPG fan, it has to be a good meaty story and deep characters with their own history. Plus I want the graphics to be technically efficient. For example, no dodgy scenery pop-up, objects appearing in their correct place and not say, 3 feet in the air. My ideal Sci-fi game would also contain both space and planetary exploration, but preferably without the loading screens in between.
I don't think I ask for too much :)
