What are you listening to currently? vol. 1

Well, the title says it all...

I'm between a few groups/people-

Dream Theater's newest release (I haven't stopped listening)
Murray Gold's Doctor Who (series 5) Soundtrack (monumentally epic)
Dave Brubeck (purely for fear of withdrawal if I ever stopped.. he's in a different class of virtuosi)

Those three have sort of taken over my entire listening of music.

Alright... Your turn

Today i started a "Christmas Countdown" on my FB-page ... every day (until the 24th of december) i will present a song which i´m familiar during this time of the year .. that doesn´t mean it´s always a christmas song :-)

Hope you like it!

Song of today (12-01-2011):

Wow! That's a tough one. I jump around a lot. Lately it's these:

Spaces Revisited - Larry Coryell
Alegria - Wayne Shorter
Jazz is Dead - Billy Cobham
The Planets - Holst

Pandora Stations -
Koop Radio (love what gets mixed into this grouping Latin fusion funk)
Hans Zimmer/James Newton Howard Radio (I added other film composers to the mix including Giacchino)

Just discovered Snarky Puppy - hopefully getting their CD's in my stocking if I'm good!

This is a great thread! I love reading others remarks here. Thanks for posting.

Django Reinhardt - Vol 1 & 2 1938-1942 I keep finding Django's influence on so many other players that I like. He was as influential as Jimi Hendrix

David Gray - A New Day at Midnight & White Ladder - I really like the way David Gray's albums are produced.

I'm also listening to a bunch of various tunes to learn for some upcoming gigs, including The Ventures, Jan & Dean, etc.

I'm getting some great ideas on some of the soundtrack stuff to listen to from the other posts here.

Hmm...Well - I listen to a big variety, but lately - if judged by my Pandora channels - I've been listening to a lot of : Imogen Heap, Bitter:Sweet, Massive Attack, Natalie Waker. Also Becca Neun ;^), Ivy, Beck. For soundtrack stuff, I've been listening to Michael Giacchino's score for "UP", some J.Williams. Also Thomas Dolby's new album is incredible. Been listening to some of the tracks for almost a year now and still find fresh new elements in them. It's beautiful work.

Sorry, don't have any neat lists like that :) but I like the thread.

I do listen to Solar Fields (Magnus Birgersson) when I run he's my favorite ambient composer. Otherwise I'm listening to the radio on way to and from work and my own stuff when I'm at home.

Trevor... I love Dream Theater!

Cool list Trevor. Yours too Stan. I'm listening to a variety, given I have 3 teens with different tastes in music. Here goes:

Anything Journey (original songs with Steve Perry is my preference)
Evanescence (really like the new song "What I Want")
Nickelback
Jason Aldean
Miranda Lambert
Rhianna
Beyonce

....just to name a few. (Of course I listen to my stuff too).

Happy Holidays! (can't forget the Christmas tunes now! :) )
