1 Sentence Project - "Killbit Jones" - Write With Us, 1 Sentence at a Time

"How the Vest Was Won" is headed toward a conclusion.  Here's another sentence to start us off - send in your sentences (and kick my butt!)  The big deal is: write your bid for the next sentence.  I'll pick one and then we do it again.

Our story began with:

"A world without computers?  Paradise," said Jones.

"Do you see" Cassie screeched at Killbit, "what happens when you envision a world without computers?!"

(Would AgentSmith be cackling in a corner somewhere; coughing with the occasional corn chip sputter?)

Dawn,
A percing scream erupts from below, causing the hairs on Jones and Callies neck rise, Callie raises her weapon pointing it in the direction of the sound, "what the hell is that", Periwinkle starts to laugh, a sinister smile crosses his face as he looks towards Jones and Callie, in a dry humourless voice says "re-inforcements if im not mistaken".

One of the steam powered robots popped open and out hopped Kangaroo Jack. "Abandon ship mates! It's a mettle eater! We've been stabbed in the back! They deployed us in full battle armor as bait!"

“Good lord,” Killbit said. “Overland’s not human! He . . . he’s a Grey Rabbit of Lapintine 5!”

“A what?” Cassie asked incredulously.

“So we throw him a carrot and move on,” Periwinkle said, ignoring Cassie. “What’s the big deal?”

Killbit looked at Periwinkle. “The Grey Rabbits of Lapintine 5 don’t eat carrots, Periwinkle – they’re not vegetarians.”

Cassie stared down at the figure far below them, her eyes wide. “He’s a carnivore? A meat-eating bunny rabbit?”

“Wassamatter Cass? Scared of a little grey bunny rabbit?” Periwinkle chuckled.

“Periwinkle,” Killbit said, looking back at Overland, who had gotten up off the ground and was moving slowing toward them, “search your databanks for the planet Lapintine 5 – it’s a hunk of iron and nickel orbiting a couple of AUs out from Lapintine. Look up the Grey Rabbits – they’re the only life form to have successfully evolved on Lapintine 5. And they don’t eat vegetables. Or meat, for that matter.”

Periwinkle’s eyes flashed brightly and the safety valve on his steam pipe suddenly blew with a shrill whistle. “By the Great Steam Boiler!” he swore. “They – they’re metallovores!”

Killbit nodded slowly. “Yes. They eat . . . metal.”

Cassie chuckled. “Wassamatter, Winky? Scared of a few grey bunny rabbits?”

Periwinkle shook his head. “So let me get this straight: we’re facing not only a horde of murderous steam-powered robots, but also a planet full of hostile metal-crunching bunnies?”

“AgentSmith,” Killbit breathed prayerfully, staring at Overland through the binoculars. “What have you done?”

The AI corrected, albeit in hushed tones, " that didn't come out right; he looks more Sioux than Washoe".

(Yes, I'm following rmoore080 here; methinks that we are weary of the time dilation involved in this process. :-O

(@rmoore080; you need to start these alien robots as a fresh post, and we could have the "several sentence" writing contest. Or maybe even us just writing, following the latest post; kinda like following cats. BTW, I've been playing "Machinarium", a game found on the Steam platform, and your robots would fit in with that world. Its fun and really funny. :-) And cheap.

(@ Steve V; really now. I would think Kangaroo Jack would be more fitting, hehrhrhehrh!)

Overland fell to the ground with a violent fit of spasms, and suddenly ripped himself free of his Nake suit (that is what the Bunny People called us humands, Naked Apes, or Nakes for short) to reveal a fluffy grey bunny, much the same as an over sized Jackrabbit.

A large black ship screamed over their heads and there was a brilliant flash of light, blinding the team momentarily. When Killbit could see again, he was looking at a bundle of something on the ground in front of him.

“What in the far-off flatulating nebulas is that?” he said, nudging it with his boot.

Periwinkle’s eyes glowed. “My internal scanners report that It appears to be a folded bundle of fuzzy pink fabric.”

Cassie pick up the bundle with one hand and shook it out. “Well I’ll be digitized,” Periwinkle whirred, “It’s a bunny suit.”

“And it looks like it’s your size, Killbit,” Cassie said, eyebrow arched.

The fleet of black ships thundered into the atmosphere, at the helm of each a proud mechanical gnashed it’s metallic incisors in growing oil-lust . . . On the surface of the planet, the pitiful band of a few thousand humans and intelligent dogs, one secret colony of mobile plants and Periwinkle, looked up to the sky in alarm as the whining darts descended at hypersonic speeds, their noses glowing white from the heat of re-entry.

One the bridge of the lead ship, Admiral Grob clutched the arms of his chair and honked in excitement. “Lieutenant!” he roared, “Prepare the secret weapon!”

“Oh sir!” the lieutenant cried, piddling small pools of oil on the deck, “Not the Ridiculous Ray!”

‘YES!” thundered Grob, pushing himself up from his command seat. “The Ridiculous Ray!”

Down on the planet, people started running as the ships loomed closer. Killbit eyed the sky with a worried expression. “Gee,” he muttered, “I sure hope AgentSmith remembered to turn on the shield that blocks the ridiculous ray. “

“Let’s hope so,” Periwinkle snapped. “Otherwise, things are about to get . . . silly.”
