I am also a published Fantasy/Steampunk/Sci/Fi author. www.knorrasky.com A little shameless self promotion. ;-)
This is a great site, though I am having a little difficulty figuring it out. I’ll get there...I hope...ahh boy...
Check out the bio ship in Farscape the Australian TV series from a few years ago. It was born operational and only need a symbiotic pilot to give it direction. As to how it worked, that was never explained as far as I know.
You can always try some sort of bioluminescence tweak. Think along the lines of a bio Ion drive. If some organisms can release bio-photons, why not bio-ions? Write on!
Oh I know all about farscape Steve, I,m more than a little obsessed. My problem was coming up with a semi believeable way of explaining it. But chris has helped backup one of my first ideas. Thanks guys.
How about bio-chemical reaction? How about a living wing, but solar-sail type?

Depends on what kind of media. A television show, you'll probably need an agent. For a web series, just a domain name and a bunch of twitter & Facebook followers.
But remember, some of the best sci-fi shows started out as web series.
As on of my favorite bosses told me - "I Hollywood, when you make something, you win." The best thing to do with your idea - is to work on it.
Technology is at the place now where you can make a version of your idea yourself. It's just about figuring out what you've got to work with and committing to get it done.
Even if you only make thirty-seconds of your idea - and it's half as good as the world-wide-web-of-wonky - I'll promote it. Just remind me I said that when you're done.
Reluctant author's inspiration for his winning entry is good.
