1st Triplet Story - What We'll Assign for our First Submissions
Anachronists!
One of our main features will be a triplet of three short shorts (500 words or less) by three different authors all on the same theme, character or location. Weigh in here with what you think the first assignment for the triplet should be.
Since we're the First Moon of Creatia, and "The Moon is a Harsh Mistress" is one of my favorite novels, my first idea was to get a triplet showing three different characters during a lunar revolution, or maybe three looks at one character's life before, during and after that revolution - for the assignment, I'd include a basic character.
What else?

I'd like to see an average rating for the stories, keeping the current 5-pt system. That kind of system was used in the toonboom animation contest as the fan voting system. It lets us see what stories others like. If we just have a like button, we may get a dozen stories with the same number of likes, but with ratings we can tell which are "ok" likes and which are "amazing!" likes.

Ratings, we need to know if they like it, I'd say. And, again, I'd like to see more second and third pages posted.

Hello:
Good question, K. I was actually hoping to just get a kind of "like" button instead of full ratings. Do people want to see ratings on their stories, or would they just like a count of likes?

Hey AgentSmith, is there a way we could see the average rating of a story, or is that something just the editors see? It would be cool to see what people are rating our stories, rather than just how many times it has been rated.

Hey Shla -
Do it! There's absolutely nothing stopping anyone from developing their own triplet stories. The triplet guidelines are extremely wide-open, but they are there so that people who haven't formed groups have something to get together with. This is the beginning - if I was getting triplet submissions everyday from a ton of groups, I wouldn't have to put out much of a triplet assignment at all! If you want to form a group and make something happen - please do!
And like kaedance says - writing to theme is something writers have to do. Even famous, well-paid ones are often contacted by editors saying "we're putting together a book of stories about X. I thought you might be great at version Y. Want in?"
I encourage people to get together and work out a triplet before they submit! I also encourage people to co-write stories for the main feature!

I will hopefully add my own storys soon (well as soon as I find the time to finish them lol) if non-triplet stories are accepted to the slush. If they are then great, I have three or four I want to sort out and put into the slush. I really want the chance to get some feedback on my ideas, and stories. I've really missed writing recently (my life is all study, study, study at the moment) and I've missed Myouterspace and the people here, as you are all some of the most creative people I have met. So I was really excited to work on the moon story. And I guess Kadeance is right, I think I shall try to write something for it, but won't worry too much if it comes out crap. I'll just see what I can do with what I'm given.....

I have a sneaking suspicion that our submissions will be posted soon, so kaedance, fear not, and as for Shlabloink, why not just start your own story. I might even try to add to it. Jhonny Shah, fan fiction is out of the question. My only complaint is the shortness of the story. I fear mine is too long.

I wrote and submitted a story that didn't really fit the constraints, and I've seen several on the slush pile page that don't fit either. My story focused on the early life of a character, with the idea being that someone would pick it up and write the other two stories. But I haven't seen that story come up on the slush pile yet.
I'm with Shlabloink- I'm a little disappointed. I liked having a bit more freedom to develop our own characters, and I think that approach would have resulted in more diverse stories. However, I suppose it's part of trying to be published- we either have to fit the guidelines set out, or choose to sit it out.
I'm not quite ready to give it up yet, so I'm going to give it one more try. We'll see what happens.

I'm always turned off by fan-fiction and the inbreeding and copyright violations usually found in them.
I shy from the zenoids more so because it's a children's cartoon, though I thought brainstorming ship designs was kinda fun. I don't disagree with zenoids project, I think it's neat to watch it unfold but I just personally, have no interest in developing children's content, on that level.
