Interview - Paul Barnett

Paul BarnettPaul Barnett What can I say about Paul Barnett? He's British, he's witty, and he's sharp as a tack with a killer taste in music and shoes.

He's also the new Governor of the planet Sirius, home world to all of MOS’ resident video game developers and professionals.

Most famously associated with Warhammer Online, developed by Mythic Entertainment (now Mythic/Bioware), Barnett got his start designing online MUDs (Multi User Dungeons) in the late ‘90s, including AOL’s Legends of Terris (which was their first real interactive game) and followed by Legends of Cosrin. Barnett currently serves as the Creative Director for Mythic/Bioware, which is owned by EA Games. When Mark Jacobs designed of Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning, Barnett was brought in as a consultant to ensure that the virtual world “looked, felt and smelled like Warhammer.” During the last year of development, he ran the design department before being promoted to the role of Creative Director. As such, he frequently conducts interviews and speaks at panels on behalf of Mythic/Bioware.

When I first found out I'd be interviewing Paul, I was a little nervous yet curious… so of course me being me, I started watching some videos of him speaking at different events. When we met, I thought, "Will I be able to keep up? Can I handle the awesome that is Paul Barnett? I mean, this guy had a huge hand in Warhammer Online for crying out loud!"

And then we met… and all my fears subsided. Paul Barnett is easily one of the most approachable and easygoing blokes in all of the gaming industry. And of course, when it comes to gaming, this guy knows his stuff, and can speak in such a way that even a “civilian” a.k.a. “non-gamer” can understand exactly what he's talking about. He is seamless in nature and can find a common thread with any person he encounters. THAT'S what makes Paul Barnett one of the most sought after speakers in the video game industry - his accessibility.

Now that he's here at MyOuterSpace, check out the recently posted video interview with him, and be sure to say “Hi” and welcome our beloved new Governor. I know y'all will like him as much as I do. He's EPIC WIN.
