Felicia Day Carves Her Own Character into a Fave Game’s Canon with Web Series “Dragon Age: Redemption”
Geek-media maven Felicia Day has already written herself a central role in the game of online entertainment with “The Guild”, but now she’s writing herself into one of her own fan-faves with the forthcoming “Dragon Age: Redemption”, a web series tie-in produced with gaming giant EA/Bioware. On her blog and in online interviews, Day gushes over the chance to upgrade her geek cred one level closer to goddess: EA/Bioware offered her authorship of an official story in the world of her favorite RPG’s, “Dragon Age”. The arc of the series, set to premiere this summer, features Day as elf assassin Tallis gathering together a troublesome team to help her achieve her assignment. Unlike the nerderiffic parody“The Legend of Neil” and other game-centric hooting and hilarity found around the internet, this series seems like new ground: a sanctioned, game-world storyline co-produced with the official game team – and specifically for an online platform. Day began the project with a wariness to overcommit herself, but ended up pulling what she describes as “ten years” of favors to get as much of her Dragon Age tale onto our computer screens with only a “web series budget”. She put together an impressive team, including alumni of “Lost” and “The United States of Tara”. Though the series is still in post-production, the trailer, first shown on Jimmy Kimmel Live, can be seen on Felicia Day’s blog. “Dragon Age II” is the sequel to the 2009 Game of the Year “Dragon Age: Origins” and will be released for PC, Xbox and PS3 in March. The PC Demo is currently available online.
Although Felicia Day in elf ears throwing quips and daggars is enough to hook us, we’re also big fans of producing for the web and look forward to all the hullabaloo “Redemption” should start about the future of online entertainment. Day is also pretty busy continuing to grow her flagship project, since “The Guild” has been picked up for a fifth season, of which she’s already outlined her new writing chores. The word is that the new season will feature some convention action, perhaps, appropriately enough – at Dragon-Con.
