… and the winner is … Hop Litzwire!  Congratulations!

We have a new winner!  It came to our attention during the contest that the voting process was not working as we intended, one vote per voter, as announced.  With apologies to everyone involved, we have had to invalidate the voting data as received.

To resolve this issue in the spirit of Myouterspace.com, we contacted each finalist and asked them to vote for their favorite composition among the top ten submissions, excluding their own.  Below are the updated results of our Theme Music Contest based on the choices of the top ten finalists themselves.

After discussing the issue with each of the finalists, Myouterspace.com and the top ten finalists have agreed that this determination process is the most democratic and fair to all.

Judges Michael Giacchino, Amanda Tapping and the Myouterspace Creative Team wish to thank everyone who entered and congratulate the finalists for their amazing work.

Here’s how the voting with the finalists turned out.  There were a few tie-breaking rounds for 2nd Runner-Up, and 3rd and 4th Runners-Up were left tied – but since those spots already had the same prize package, we’ve let the tie stand.  These were everyone’s first picks:

Jonas Friedman:  "My vote is for David Steele if it's now down to a vote by the composers. I believe his piece was corky and had a simple hook that kids would attach to."

James Frank:  "...my favorite was Hop's!"

Hop Litzwire:  "James Franks - His retro-synth-infused power pop theme is right up my own alley!"

David Steele:  "I liked the work that David Imhof did. He really did a nice job of catching the cues on the names and I dug his "retro wah vibe" on the scene where the girl is attracted to the guy."

Greg Gordon Smith:  "Hop's entry is the most interesting, wacky, and musical. I feel good about giving him my vote."

Danny Gray: "As an instrumental composer I tend to favor a well done instrumental score... so I would have to say that Ray Hedgepeth is my number one pick."

Ray Hedgpeth:  "My vote would definitely be for Hop Lipzwire's entry. It has a nice other-worldly quality, but also feels real modern and the production quality is top notch. In short, it really seems like a great theme song, one that would stick in your head but also fits the overall tone of the animation."

Josh Cumbee:  "After much deliberation I think I'm going to endow my vote to Mr. Danny Gray… good composition that really felt like it belonged with the picture; hats off to him."

David Imhof:  "My vote goes to Hop Litzwire.  Catchy vocals and a rockin' vibe were key factors for me.  My theme was scored to picture, but I have to admit that Hop's is instantly more memorable.  Great job!"

David Keenan:  "My vote... is Danny Gray."

Thanks again to everyone who participated.  The adventure of creating The Zenoids project on Myouterspace.com will continue, including our upcoming search for songs for Kozmo, Zara, Iggy and Ziri to sing.

Stay tuned … some big upgrades for Myouterspace are on the way!

Meet Your Top Ten!

Upon the first pass through the over 300 submissions, Creative Director Sammy Oriti was heard to exclaim: “This is why we made Myouterspace.” Reports that a small tear came to his eye may have been greatly exaggerated by Agent Smith, who recently had a chance to ask the talented top ten three big questions.
