In this preview clip of The Captains, Shatner talks with Scott Bakula, Captain Archer in the most recent Trek series, Enterprise. Bakula is also well-known for portraying an iconic sci-fi hero, time-shanghaied genius Sam Beckett, in the beloved adventure series Quantum Leap. Here, Bakula talks to Shatner about how the friendship in the original Star Trek between Kirk, Spock and Bones inspired him.

Bakula and Shatner go on to discuss spirituality and the roles their famous roles have had in shaping how they see life as they grows older, and the role that science fiction myths have in addressing our own mortality:

"The longer I'm here and the more I see, the less I think about that, because so many people don't get to have what I've had as long as I have. So many people don't have as much as I have, and so I think as you get older, you know people talk about perspective, but I think you get more grateful about it every day."
