What's your favorite part of acting?

That's the question. Do you like being onstage, being someone else, the limelight, the popularity (aspire for fame), the whole process of getting ready and then doing a show, or the friends you make?

I love everything about acting and being in a production, but I would say my favorite thing is the comradery between cast-members. Either you love them and have a great time, or hate them and make yourself (and everyone around you) miserable. I prefer to be friends, even when I'm working with someone who rubs me the wrong way. That way I enjoy the entire time we were together and have fond and funny memories.

What's your views?

Say what's your favorite thing about acting (mentioned above or unmentioned) and why is it your favorite?

Thanks! XD

Acting for me is such a fun release. I am pretty quiet in actual life so when the curtain comes up or the camera starts the new life just starts to flow. Depending on the character, you can feel the blood flow and the new entity appear. I love to perform live when you can hear the reactions of the audience although it can be challenging when you think something is funny and no one laughs. Being quiet makes it even better when you can say some things in character that you just left alone in real life.

Although I've only appeared on the stage twice, I done a lot of acting offstage. I've done voice overs and a little radio, but my best acting jobs were when I wasn't seen or heard at all. In acting class the classic exercise is to be a tree, or other inanimate object. I have played the mechanical head and eyes of a computer, the unseen hand of an angel, the improbable movement, and more. I was providing live action or pyrotechnic special effects for productions and sometimes it was very much about acting.

I guess to answer your question, the best part is being believed.

I get emotional just being in a theater in any capacity - audience, actor, stagehand... As a performer, channeling that energy and getting lost in the character, being someone else for the duration, is the highest high I've ever had. There is nothing like the energy from a live audience. You can feel them respond. Even in the capacity of narrator/announcer, it's not 'me' up there and the same feelings apply. Making the writer's words come to life is magical. A hushed gasp, an involuntary laugh, tears - those are the truths from the audience that make it all worthwhile. I often do all of those things as an audience member even before the curtain goes up! ha!

Yes to all of it! As others said, the friendships made in shows are ones you never forget or find again. I always get emotional closing night and even if I see the people from the show everyday it's really special when you are creating the same world and illusion for hours each day. And the audience is one of the best rewards, when you can change a person's mind of affect them in any way, even for the duration of the performance, is incredible.

Not to be too classical, but the catharsis. Not for the performer, but for the audience. Stage action creates a kind of unreality that film and other media can never accomplish. The actual human beings acting out the consequences of another existence, right in front of them. That is a kind of freedom from the world - our ability to live through something unreal, because we have made it real.

You guys have great points! It's one of the best things in the world when people enjoy themselves because of you. I really like doing comedy, so I love it when people laugh. Although I was in one production that was mystery and I adored it when the audience screamed. I think that acting is great, because, as you said Angel, it's like being a kid again. Pepelequoi, I agree about going out to take a bow. Joining hands with the cast and grinning as people applaud and stand: it's awesome. Thanks for the replies, guys!

You really nailed it, Bethany. I love entertaining people above all else. Being on stage and interacting with a live audience is just an experience unmatched, in my opinion. I love film work, too and for me the idea of pretending to be someone else brings out the wonder of being a kid. My favorite memories are always, as you said, the camaraderie and out-takes, fun things that happened between shoots, and bonds that last forever.

I've acted in a couple of school productions, and what I love the very most is simply the euphoria of going on stage, assuming another identity, making people laugh or cry or even just giving people a good time. I also love how in my experience, the main cast are always so close and there are often so many inside jokes that no one else in the world would find funny but us. But that euphoria of going on stage, especially at the end to take my bows, is so amazing and there is nothing else quite like it. :D
