Unreal Development Kit Now Available for iOS

Yo, Apple platform designers! Epic Games has just made their Unreal Engine available for FREE download. They don't charge to download, play with or even make and release free games. They only charge if you sell it, so designers may wanna check this out. The graphics are shaweeeeeet....

Until the Android Market allows files over a certain size, only iOS devs can take advantage. Damn!

Great news for you Windows users. Not so great if you use a Mac without using Windows. Since I own CrossOver Mac Pro and CrossOver Games, I still downloaded the UDK (about a gigabyte). I tried installing it and it would have probably worked had it not been for the fact that it wanted to download and install the Windows Dot Net stuff. I might have been able to use it had I gone ahead (as I do have a licensed copy of XP on my [now] unused PC so I could have gone ahead with the install). I just didn't want the Dot Net clutter.

So if you use a Mac or Linux machine and don't want to use Windows, you may well be able to use the UDK if you snag CrossOver (Games in this case; I started the install using both products). You will then need to download the Dot Net stuff. You can download a free demo of CrossOver Games and then see if the UDK will work for you, assuming you want to install the Dot Net files). You'll find CrossOver at CodeWeavers.
